Bud, Not Buddy

Recently I read a book called “Bud, Not Buddy” it was a great book with a lot of adventure and excitement. This book has won a couple of awards like the Newberry Medal and the Coretta Scott King Award.

This book is about Bud Caldwell, the main character (who hates being called Buddy) who runs away from the orphanage to try to find his father. His mom left him clues like flyers of Herman E. Calloway and his band. Bud thinks the flyers will lead him to his father or probably Herman E. Calloway is his father. Once he decides to find his father no problems will stop him. Not fear, not vampires, not hunger (almost) not even Herman E. Calloway. I will stop the story here so you can read to find out what happens next.

The most exciting part is when Bud finds Herman E. Calloway. I would change the part of the story when Bud kisses a girl on his way to find his father because it is so random and has nothing to do with the story. The author should have skipped that part of the story. This story reminds me of the book “The Silver Chair” by C.S. Lewis because they are both about someone trying to find someone. Bud tried to find his dad and Eustace and Jill (characters from “The Silver Chair”) tried to find their friend’s son.

Even though this story is fiction, it could be a real life situation that could be happening all over the world. Sometimes we cannot be so lucky like Bud and find the person you want to find. We should be lucky we are not in a situation like Bud’s and I thank Christopher Paul Curtis the author of this book for teaching us that. Any way, this was a breath taking, exciting and great book that I would give four and a half stars to. I really enjoyed and love this book.

Report: The House of Dies Drear

I just finished some books, including this book, The House of Dies  Drear, by Virginia Hamilton. I was kinda creeped out by this scary book.

The house held secrets, Thomas knew, even before he first saw it looming grey and massive on its ledge of rock. It had a century old legend that was haunting. Two fugitive black slaves that had escaped from their masters got killed by bounty hunter rigth in that house. Also other people believe that Dies Drear himself, who built this house as an underground rail road station, died in the house. The ghosts of the three was said to walk the rooms... and Thomas had to explore it!

I thought this book was scary because it shows how evil the whites treated the blacks in that time, and also  describes the spooky really, really well. I kind of recommend this book to you people out there... if you are not afraid!

The Horse And His Boy

Dear C.S. Lewis,
My name is Esther and I have read three books in your Chronicles of Narnia series. I have read “The Magician’s Nephew”, “The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe” and finally the book I am writing to you about, “The Horse and His Boy”. This book was very good and hard to put down.

My favourite part of this book is when I found out Shasta the main character was twins with the prince Corin. Even though it was a bit obvious because they were mistaken for each other, I thought that they were totally different people. Shasta, was escaping from his fake dad (his dad was selling him to slavery) to Narnia with a Narnian horse, named Bree. Later, they met Aravis and another Narnian horse named Hwin. They encountered many troubles but when Shasta arrived in Narnia, he was crowned prince. I liked it because not only did he arrive to Narnia safely he also became royal. I also like this story because the problems were sudden and this story was full of adventure.

Although I really enjoyed the book there is one place I disliked. I disliked how Aravis was not nice to Shasta on their way to Narnia. I disliked it because Aravis did not even try to get to know Shasta. She just judged him because he was poor and wearing rags. Even though Aravis was rich she should not have looked down at Shasta even before getting to know him.

I would like to ask you a few questions about the story. What inspired you to write this story? How did you start writing? What was the easiest part to write in the book? What was your favorite part of the book? What’s the best thing about being an author?

“The horse and his boy” is an awesome book. I would really recommend it to anyone. I am really happy I read this book. Thank you for writing such an awesome book.

Sincerely,
Esther

Report: Sojourner Truth: Ain't I a Woman?

I finished a book yesturday called Sojourner Truth: Ain't I a Woman? by Patricia C. McKissack and Fredrick McKissack. This book is a biography on Sojourner's life.

In 1797, slave named Isabella was born in New York. After being freed in 1827, she chose the name Sojourner Truth. Although she could not read, she quote the Bible word for word, and was a powerful speaker. An imposing six feet tall, with a profound faith in God's love and deep rich voice, she stirred audiences, until her death in 1883.

I liked this book because it was against slavery and had a lot of power and meaning to it. I recommend this book to kids 6+.
This is my report.

Report: Rascal

I currently just finished a book called Rascal, by Sterling North.

Skunks, woodchucks, a crow named Poe, a canoe in the living room, welcome to the North home! This  book is about a boy named Sterling who finds a baby racoon with his friend, Oscar. Soon, the boy and racoon are really good friends, doing everything together- until the spring day when Sterling realizes Rascal needs to live his own lfe.

I liked this book because the author described this book's events really well. It was also pretty unique that the author used his name for the main character. I recommend this book to everyone.

Report: Coraline

Coraline is a young girl who likes to explore. One day she found a door that led to the other world. Her other mother was there, she had buttons for eyes. Their relationship was good at first but then a cat told her the other mother just wanted to eat her. She wasn’t afraid. She won over her other mother.

The moral of the story is don’t ever trust most strangers. They might seem nice but they want to use you.

The funniest part is when she fakes a tea party with dolls and captures the other mother’s hand and throws it away. That was also weird. The main event is when Coraline basically kills the other mother.

I don’t want to make this too clear because you can read it yourself. I kind of like this. I recommend this book ages 9 and over.

Report: Walk two moons

I currently read a book called Walk two moons, by Sharon Creech. I liked this book because it was funny, kind of creepy, and sad at the same time, like a salad. I recommend this book to kids 8+. Here's a summary.

"Dont judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins" What is the meaning of this strange note left on her friend Phobe Winterbottom's door step? Only Sal knows, and on a road trip with her grandparents she tells the tale of her friend Phobe, Phobe's disappearing mom and the lunatic. But can Sal make sense of the mystery surrounding her, and her own dead mother?

Report: Belle Prater's Boy

I finished a book called Belle Prater's Boy. This book is by Ruth White. Here's a summary.

When Belle Prater disappears, Belle's son, Woodrow, comes to live with his grandparents in Coal Station, Virginia. Woodrow's cousin Gypsy lives next door and is as curious as the rest of the village about his mother's disappearance. Woodrow is cross eyed and wears hand-me-down, but Gypsy is impressed by his charm and witty stories. As they spend time together, the cousins find they have a lot in common, and they become best friends in their sixth grade year. Gypsy is the town beauty, but she has hidden sorrows of her own. She wonders how Woodrow can accept his mother's disappearance when she's never gotten over her father's death. That's when Woodrow tells Gypsy the secret about his mother. He's the only one knows because he's Belle Prater's Boy.

I liked this book because this book tells kids about half-orphans, and how much you should respect that you have two parents. This is my report.

Report: The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

I finished a book called The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, by AVI. Here's a brief summary of what happened.

Not every thirteen year old is accused of murder, brought to trial, and found guilty. But Charlotte Doyle was, and her story is worth relating even if it did happen centuries ago. Be warned however: if strong ideas and action offend you, read no more. Find another companion to share your hours with. For her part she intend to tell the truth as she lived it. Charlotte Doyle was traveling when she got captured by pirates, how will she escape?

I like this book's cover because it shows a girl (Charlotte Doyle) standing in the pirate ship. It almost tells the who plot of the story to you. I recommend this book to everyone. I hope everyone enjoys it!

Report: Amos Fortune

I currently finished a book called "Amos Fortune: Free Man". It is a great lesson for kids. The lesson is pretty much against racism. Here's a summary of "Amos Fortune: Free Man".

"It does a man no good to be free until he learns how to live." These were the words of Amos Fortune, born the son of a king in the At-mun-shi tribe, in Africa. When Amos was only fifteen years old, he was captured by slave traders and brought to Massachusetts in a slave carrier, where he was sold, at an auction! Although his freedom had been taken, Amos never lost his dignity and courage. He dreamed of freedom every day, and knew that someday, HE WILL BE FREE!

I liked this book because it was against racism and had a lot of meaning. This book teaches kids never give up and follow your dreams. I recommend this book to kids of all ages.

Report: Chasing Redbird

I finished a book called Chasing Redbird, by Sharon Creech. This book is about a girl named Zinny Taylor. To her, life is trying to untangle spaghetti. She needs to escape the chaos of her family, and when she finds a long forgotten trail in the woods near her house, she resolves to discover it, stone-by-stone. It's a journey that leads her to unravel the hidden secrets of her aunt's life. And while Zinny chases ghosts in the woods, Jake Boon is chasing her...

I liked this book so-so because this book wasn't really that exciting, and this book doesn't have a moral or a lesson to it. But I liked that this book was humorous. I recommend this book to kids who love reading (of course), and that have lots of stress in their life that they really want to break out of it. This is a report on Chasing  Redbird.

Report: The Ghost Belonged to Me

I currently finished a book called The Ghost Belong to Me, By Richard Peck. I didn't really understand some parts of the book, but I still liked this book. Here's a summary.

When Alexander notices a light coming from the barn, he thinks his friend Blossom is trying to scare him. But strange and suspicious things are really starting to happen there. Slimy footprints are all over the floor in the barn out of nowhere, and whimpering sounds are coming down from the hayloft. Then one night Alexander really comes face to face with a drowned girl, who brings a crypt warning. Tragedy is looming. Will there still be time for Alex to act on the ghost's warnings?

I liked this book because this was somehow a mixture of humor, horror, and mystery. I also couldn't understand some parts because this book was written in 1979. Even though the name and the cover of the book is scary, actually, the books contents aren't scary at all. This is my report.

Mickey Mouse and the Pet Shop

Summer of the story

Mickey’s best friend Mr. Palmer owned a pet shop. One day, Mr. Palmer had to leave town. “I will be back tomorrow,” he said to Mickey. Mickey looked around. It was all up to him! Every animal looked good except a whimpering puppy. “You need some attention.” Mickey said. So Mickey held the puppy. The puppy got out of Mickey’s arms and did something bad. Mickey got the puppy and put it back. Just then, Mickey’s first customer came in. Mickey forgot to lock the kennel door. The puppy got out and opened the mice cage. “I’ll come back later, much later!” The costumer said as she raced out the door. Mickey gathered the animals and locked the Kennel door. When Mickey tried to sleep, the puppy holed at the top of his lungs. Mickey tried everything but it won’t work. Then the puppy got what it wanted, a spot on the bed next to Mickey! The next day, Mickey saw a mess! He knew that the puppy did that. Mickey found the puppy in the storage room. “I guess I should be cleaning up, ”said Mickey. The puppy followed Mickey, trying o be good. The puppy helped Mickey clean up the shop. When they were done, Mr. Palmer came back. He hand Mickey his pay check. The puppy began to howl. “I will miss you too!” Mickey said to puppy. Suddenly, Mickey had an idea, he could take the puppy instead of the pay! “But what should I call you?” Mickey wondered. He looked on the newspaper. It said: NEW PICTURES OF PLUTO! “I’ll call you Pluto!” said Mickey. Mickey can Pluto were best friends. (the End)

Book review:

I like the part when Mickey took the puppy instead of the paycheck because if Mickey took the paycheck he will be happy but if he took the puppy, Mickey and the puppy will both be happy. This is a story about friendship. At the end, Mickey has choice whether to take the puppy or the paycheck. He takes the puppy and everyone was happy. My friend’s name is Alisha, I like to play dinosaur train with her. In the game you get four players. Somebody be the Mother, Don, tiny and Shiny. the Mothers puts Don, Tiny and Shiny in a special order and the mother leads the way to go. Alisha is the Mother and I am Tiny.

Poem: Five Little Flowers written by Claire

Five Little Flowers

Five little flowers standing on the grass,
Someone comes by and steps on one, Uh! Oh!
Four little flowers standing on the grass,
Someone comes by and picks up one and gave it to a friend.
Three little flowers kept growing,
Three people come and pick them up.

Report: How to Ride a Dragon's Storm

I just finished a book called How to ride a dragon's storm, by Cressida Cowell. Even though this book isn't in my book list, I loved this book and wanted to share this with everyone. This book is the latest out of the How to train your dragon series.

Hiccup is a boy who loves dragons, he has a "small Common or Garden dragon with large, innocent greengage eyes". In this episode, Hiccup has three months, five days, and six months to battle Polarserpents and humongous sea dragons, save his father from certain death, AND win the annual Inter-Tribal-Friendly Swimming Race (which isn't friendly, at all). Can he do it (or not)?

I really, really liked this book because it was extremely funny, had dragons in it (my favourite fantasy creature), and was cool. I recommend this book to kids 8+, because there are some funny parts that were so funny, my stomache hurt (so I thought kids under 8 won't be able to stand it). This is my not-on-the-list-report on this hilarious book, How to ride a dragon's storm.

Report: Around the World In A Hundred Years

I finished a book called Around the World In A Hundred Years, by Jean Fritz. It is about travelers from a really long time ago. Here's a summary.

It took all the powerful traits to brave The Unknown. In the early 1400s, much of the world wasn't discovered, yet. Europeans knew that there were treasure in China and the rest of Asia, but they had no idea how to get there, or what they might run into on their way. Yet some brave men felt they were smart and brave enough to figure it out. This book stars Prince Henry the Navigator, Bartholomew Diaz, Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Pedro Alvares Cabral, Jhon Cabot, Amerigo Vepucci, Juan Ponce de Leon, Vasco Nunez de Balboa, and Ferdinard Magellan. It is about how they created the map of the world, piece by piece.

I liked this book because it shows all the explorers from 1421 to1521 that made a huge contribution to the world of maps. I recommend this book to all the explorers out there, young or old.

The Hit-Away Kid

I just read a book called the Hit-Away Kid. It was a great book. It was written by Matt Christopher.

It was about a boy called Barry who always cheated in the baseball game and only the bully and the coach saw him and told him not to cheat. One day Berry’s sister Susan lost her glass dog. One bully that was in Barry’s baseball club stole the glass dog! Barry said I would stop cheating and you would give me the glass dog tomorrow and the bully agreed. When it was time for the baseball game, the pitcher threw the ball, and then Barry hit the ball. He dropped the bat and started running and missed the 2nd base and ran to the 3rd base and stopped. He told the coach that he accidently missed the 2nd base which he didn’t lie this time. At the end of the game, the bully gave him the glass dog.

My favourite part was when Barry noticed that cheating was really bad because he could get into really big trouble. And when the bully gave the glass dog back, he did not lie.

All kids and adults should be honest all time. I recommend this book for kids 6+.

Monster Manners

The  book that I read was called Monster Manners.
It  was about a monster named Rosie who learned monster manners. Rosie said to his best friend, Prunilla, "You have good monster manners." So she asked Prunilla to teacher her monster manners. First Prunilla taught her monster faces. Rosie tried but she can't do it. Prunilla said, "You are not even trying maybe you are better at table manners". when Prunilla started to eat, everyone fainted. But Rosie used his fork and knife, and chewed nicely, Prunilla was angry, "Maybe you are better at this". Prunilla pressed the door bell on his uncle's door. When she got in, she spilled the flower pot and stepped on his uncle's feet very hardly, and his uncle said, "Good." Rosie sat on a sofa and asked, "How do you do, Prunilla's Uncle ?" Prunillal's uncle said," Bring your friend when she knows monster manners". When Rosie and Prunilla got home, the house was flooded, the parents called the plumber and the plumber didn't come. Rosie called the plumber nicely and the plumber came. When the plumber left, Rosie's mom sent her to go outside.
I liked this story because at last Rosie used her manners and the plumber came.

hello everyone this is leilei. just testing.

Holes

Holes. What do you think of when you hear that word? I think of buried treasure. Of juvenile boys working all day digging holes. I think of the book "Holes".

With Louis Sachar as it's author, it's no wonder "Holes" won the Newbery Honor. Written in an entertaining style with many twists and turns, this book has a lot of laughs. Weaving past and present times together to make one great master piece, "Holes" is a worthwhile book.

We start with our main character, Stanley Yelnats the Fourth (whose last name is the same as the first name but written backwards). First thing you should know, he has horrible luck. All because of his no good pig stealing great great grandfather, but we'll get more into that later. And what horrible luck he had. With no friends and a poor family that is trying to invent something to get rid of the smell from shoes, his life is the very definition of bad luck.

So when a pair of stinky shoes fell from the sky, Stanley had no idea that putting them on would change his life forever. And it did. It turns out that those shoes belonged to famous baseball player, Clyde Livingston and since Stanley was wearing the shoes, the police think that Stanley stole them. With his family not being able to get him a lawyer, Stanley is given a decision. Either go to jail or go the Camp Green Lake.

Of course, Stanley chooses the obvious choice, the camp. I mean, Camp Green Lake doesn't sound that bad, right? It's a camp and since it's called Green Lake, there should be a lake there which sounds a lot better than jail.

But Stanley just had to go to the wrong camp. With a dried up lake and a piece of land that has not rained in 100 years, there is nothing that makes this camp appealing. Rattlesnakes and scorpions roam the desert like land but nothing is at frighting as the yellow-spotted lizards which you die a slow painful death when they bite you.

Living with juvenile kids whose nicknames are Squid, Armpit, X-Ray, and lots more, Stanley's life couldn't have been more unlucky. But the most painful part of Camp Green-Lake are the holes.

Every morning at 4 o'clock, the boys get up and grab their shovels and pick a spot on the dry cracked ground. And starts digging. Each hole has to be 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep and if they find anything, they have to report to the Warden. Aw, the Warden. The devil of Camp Green Lake. Rule number 1, never ever upset the Warden. Unless you want to die a horrifying death.

The holes are suppose to for "character building" but Stanley can't help but think that the Warden was looking for something. And he was right. When he found a lipstick container that read KB, the initials sounded like it belongs to the famous outlaw, Kissin' Kate Barlow.

Which brings us to another story. A long time ago, when the lake was beautiful and still alive, Camp Green Lake was a town. A town that was known as heaven on earth because of Katherine Barlow. See, Katherine was a teacher but was known for her spiced peaches which were the most delicious things on earth. She would put the peaches and other spices into a jar and preserve them to give to people. Also, in the same town, there was a man named Sam. But Sam was black so he was treated differently. But that didn't stop Sam from being friendly.

Sam owned an onion farm and sold onions and onion tonics and medicine to the people Green Lake. You might be asking me why am I telling you this. Well, I'll leave that to your imagination. But I will tell you one thing. In the end, Sam was shot and Katherine Barlow left the town of Green Lake but not without killing the warden and giving him a "kiss". Since that day, Green Lake has never seen rain ever again.

Let's get back to Stanley. After getting use to the routine, Stanley has become almost use to this life and kind of enjoys it for he now has friends. Which reminds me, I haven't told you about Zero yet. Well, Hector Zeroni is his real name, but you can call him Zero. Appearing to the others as a dumb kid with nothing in his brain, Stanley befriended him. Finding that he actually is very smart, Stanley starts teaching him how to read.

Stanley

This brings me to the other part of my story. The reason why Stanley was so unlucky. You see, 110 years ago, there was this man named Elya. Elya fell in love with a girl and wanted to have her hand in marriage by getting the fattest pig. He asks his elderly friend Madame Zeroni for advice. She tells Elya to pick one of the pigs and to climb up the mountain and let the pig drink some of the water from the stream and sing a song. Every day, if he does this, the pig would get fatter and Elya would get stronger. However, after this, Elya would have to carry Madame Zeroni up the mountain and let her drink from the stream and if he doesn't, his family will be cursed for all eternity.

Can you guess what happens next? Yep, Elya forgets about the curse entirely when he is betrayed by his lover and moves to America. By the way, Elya's last name was Yelnats. And since that day, the entire Yelnats family has been unlucky ever since.

You might be asking how any of this has to do with Stanley. Well, when you're trying to escape Camp Green Lake and you don't have food or water and there are poisonous animals out there, everything in the past has to do with the present and Stanley's survival. Go read the book to find out what happens.

I love this book because it's so unique. I have never read anything like this book and it was absolutely amazing. The end summed up every single loose thread and it just made sense. "Holes" had a lot of suspense and I wasn't able to put the book down.

I recommend this book to 8 years old children and up. Both genders can read it but boys might like it more because there are no girls in the story. On a scale of one to ten, I give this book a 9.5.

Report: The Tripod series- The City of Gold and Lead

I finished a book called "The City of Gold and Lead" it's in the Tripods series. This book's genre is science fiction.

This series is about a boy named William, and how he saves the world from these aliens called the Masters, and their robot transports, called Tripods. A Tripod is a vehicle for the Masters (not mentioned in the first book) and they have three big long legs, and have like a white UFO on the top of the legs, they also have three really, really long tentacles for grabbing up people and capping them.

This book, "The City of Gold and Lead" is the second book in the series. Here's a short summary.

After William, Henry, and Beanpole reached the White Mountains, They met Julian, an elder and the leader of the rebellion against the Tripods, Fritz, and the rest of the rebellion group. A few months passed, and they are about to go to a village that is on the other side of the White mountains to attend a medieval tournament. They did a small practice tournament by themselves to decide which three people will got to the tournament. To make a long story short, Will, Beanpole, and Fritz got chosen. After that, the three guys went to the tournament. When they arrived, they had to wear fake caps so capped people won't notice that they weren't wearing caps, and worst of all, make the Tripods cap them!! The people there treated them like royalty, and after a few days, the tournament began. After the tournament, the results were chosen, and Fritz and Will will work in The City of Gold and Lead (the Tripod's and the Master's city)... I will let you read the rest of the book and find out what happens in this book, The City of Gold and Lead.

I liked this book because it is science fiction, my favourite genre, it has really well paced events, starts off boring, in the middle really exciting, and at the end happy. As I said, I liked this book and recommend this book to kids of all ages because its a great book. I think that if I were to rate this book on a scale from 1-10, I would rate this book a 7. This book's lesson is that you can never rely on others. That is my report on The City of Gold and Lead.

Report: The Cay

I currently finished a book called "The Cay", by Theodore Taylor.

This book's main character is a boy named Phillip. Phillip is excited when Germans invade the island of Curacao. War has always been a game to him, and he is really eager to glimpse it first, until the ship he and his mother's traveling on to the U.S. gets torpedoed. When Phillip becomes consious, he's head is in extreme pain, and is on a small raft with the ship's chef's cat, Stew Cat, and an old West Indian Man, whose name is Timothy. After long weeks, they finally reach a cay (a small island), and then find themselves in the middle of Devil's Mouth. When he was young, his mother always told him that black people "live differently", and have "twisted minds". But when Phillip's headache makes him blind and he has to rely on Timothy to do everything for him, he started having second thoughts about what his mom said. This book is a story of Timothy's, Stew Cat's, and Phillip's struggle to survive, and of Phillip's efforts to adjust his blindness and to understand how caring his black companion is.

I recommend this book to kids of all ages, and hope everyone learns a lesson from this book. I really liked this book because it really shows what courage and caring is.I also think that the author placed events where they were supposed to be, and he also forshadowed what was going to happen next really well. I rate this book is 8/10 stars and hope that everyone enjoys this book! This is my report on "The Cay".

Report: Drylongso

I just finished a book called Drylongso. This book is by an author named Virginia Hamilton. Virginia Hamilton is a really great author because first, she isn't black, not to be racist, and even though she isn't black, she writes all these great books that teach kids not to be racist and how black people are not different from any other race. Some of her books are Zeely, The House of Dies Drear, The Planet of Junior Brown, and lots more. Here's a link if you guys want to check out her web: http://www.virginiahamilton.com/ . Now to the summary of Drylongso.

Time was when the ground was really, really dry, and rainstorms was almost history. The wind kept blowing non-stop away clouds, so it can't rain, the sun scorched everything in it's sight, and people wondered why theirs and other people's fields and streams and river were all dried up for so long. Then one day, a horrific wall of dust and sand rose up and swept the landscape, turning day into night. Running away from the wall was a black boy named Drylongso, desperately trying to survive. And with him he brought a hope for water.

I totally enjoyed this book because first, Virginia Hamilton is a great author, I like books that are against racism, and I just liked it.I recommend this book to everyone, either white or black, and hope all of you will enjoy it. This is my report on this great book: Drylongso.

Dora’s camping trip by Wendy Wax

I like Dora’s explorer books because I am a girl and like adventures just like her. In the story she goes camping to friendly woods with her best friend Boots but they have to meet her family at campsite in friendly woods. She came with Boots, the monkey with yellow tummy. She had some helps from Boots, Map and backpack. First they cross the bridge, second they wear life jacket from backpack and pass the lake with a canoe and oars and finally they get to friendly forest to meet her family. Then they build a tent and set campfire for roasting marshmallows.
I went to camping with my family, too. So I like this book. I stayed the campsite for three days and went to beach for swimming, playing sand toys, finding seashells and rest in the sun. And we went hiking and saw butterflies, birds, flowers and trees. We built tent, cooked BBQ chicken and set campfire and slept in the tent at night. Except I don’t like the bad weather, big storm at night.

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe

Recently, I read a book called “The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe”. It is the sequel to “The Magician’s nephew*”. It is also a popular movie. This book is written by C.S. Lewis. It has 198 pages. It was published by Harper Collins in 1950. It is a great book.

This book is about four siblings named Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter who went to an old professor’s house to escape World War 2. Lucy, the youngest, found a wardrobe and went in it which led her to the world of Narnia where Lucy became friends with a fawn (a magical creature). The fawn told her all about Narnia which was very cold because the witch cast a spell to make it always winter.

Lucy went back and told her siblings but they didn’t believe her. One day magic brought them all into the wardrobe and they found the world of Narnia. Lucy led them to the fawn’s house and found the fawn was arrested for not capturing Lucy. You see, the witch told the fawn to capture humans because legend says two boys and two girls would rule over Narnia one day and take the witch’s place. They went on a mission to rescue the fawn and found many problems along the way like Edmund’s betrayal, a lion dying and a fight against the witch and her army.

My favourite part of this book is when Lucy found Narnia because I read the first book of the series and I was glad they could enter Narnia again. I changed my feelings from curious to mad when Edmund betrayed Lucy, Peter and Susan for candy. I would also change this part of the book for not betraying his siblings because siblings are more important than candy. Even though there was more adventure after the betrayal, I would want Edmund to get captured by the witch instead of betraying his siblings. This book surprised me because it was the first one written but second in the series.

I would really recommend this book because it was full of exciting adventure and I really enjoyed it. I recommend this book 7+ because it has some death and violence. I would give this book five stars. This book was a wonderful book.

Report: Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix

Harry Potter is a good series of books by J.K. Rowling, I like it because it is fantasy fiction .I enjoy fantasy fiction. Every time I read it, I wonder what the spells look like, so after I read the book, I watch the movie. The movie missed a few major and minor parts though. I like the book better because it has all the points and the movie doesn’t.

I have read one other Harry Potter book. It is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows better because it has more action. Boys like action.

The main part of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is when Sirius, Harry’s godfather died. Harry went berserk after that. He used a Cruciatus curse on his godfather’s murderer, Bellatrix Lestrange but it didn’t last long.

The funniest part in Harry Potter and the Order of the phoenix was when Ron got a brain on his head, he used a spell that brings you what you want, then the brain squeezed his head. The boring part was when Harry went to court because you just read a bunch of statements.

Harry got over it eventually.

A Ghost Tale for Christmas Time

I read a Magic Tree House book called “A Ghost Tale for Christmas”. It was written by Mary Pope Osborne. There were two kids called Jack and Annie. They need to help Charles Dickens who was a famous writer and was going to stop writing books because he decided to help poor children instead of writing books. Jack and Annie needed a magic violin to help Charles to re-write books in their adventure.

Charles Dickens was very poor when he was young, but then he became rich by writing books. When Jack and Annie went in their magic tree house and appeared in London, they persuaded Charles Dickens to write more books by using their magic violin. Charles Dickens got an inspiration to write more books, and their mission was accomplished!

My favourite part was when Charles Dickens noticed that everybody loves his books and he realized that he should keep on writing books.

I really like the series Magic Tree House because there always have an unexpected problems and it’s really magic. I recommend everyone to read it.

The Hardy Boys- The Missing mitt

This is one of my favorite books because how they found the mitt in a matter of time! The main characters are the brothers Joe and Frank and they do not won't to be late for their final team against the Jonston Jupitors! Either team hasn't won the Little Baseball League! The brothers were very late for their final game or their coach, Coach Quinn woudn't let them play! They rode their bicycles as fast as they could. But on their way they rode through bushes and they meet a new old friend, Mr. Mack and his dog, Lucy. Likely they just arrived in the last minute, just in time for practice. And their very best player, Jason has arrived. Not only he's the best player in the Bayport Badits team, he is like the best player in the whole entire baseball league! Practicing about some minutes, Jason yelled. Soon, all the Bandits where surrounded him. Coach Quinn asked him what happened, but he was red-faced. He finally said that his lucky mitt got stolen! That meant that he would not play no matter what! And that the whole team was depending on him and the Bayport Bandits would lose! Just then, a bus came and all the Jonston Jupitors arrived. No one could persuade Jason to play. Jason told them that Conor Hound was standing beside his gears when they arrived. Jason and Conor got into a big fight. Jason said that you where the one who stole it, but Conor said that their was no way he did. Frank and Joe meet Mr. Mack again and asked him that if ha saw anyone that came to the gear and stole Jason's Mitt. He said that he did see someone at the gear and he pointed directly at Conor Hound. Later on, when the game started, Conor Hound was the batter and Frank was just in time to ask Conor. He asked "why were you at the pile of gear earlier ", then Conor said "I was not the thief " Just then Coach Quinn came and ask what was happening? Conor said " he is accusing me of stealing ". The Coach looked at Frank and didn't believe what he was saying so she put him out the rest of the game. Joe went in and said " we were just trying to help". Now, the coach had to put him off the game and with 3 good players down, they were totally going to loss. This game was going from bad to worse!

To find out how they found the thief by talking to Jason, they finally got the lucky mitt and wore back into the game. AND helping the Bandits make a tie with the Jupitors by adding up several points. My feelings went from mad, sad and worried to happy. If you want to read more, I would recommend you to get this fantastic book from a library!
