I like the part when Oliver’s mother licked Oliver because Oliver looked cute at that time. I think this is a good book, somebody should read it because Oliver is cute. I think the writer is a good artist because Oliver’s face was cute and the drawing looks real. Oil spill kills animals that live in deep water. To protect animals from oil spill we should make a stronger ship. So it doesn’t get damaged. And how to save animals, 1. put up a sign 2. give out home-made cards 3. put save animals newspaper in peoples’ mail boxes.

Story summary “Oliver and the Oil Spill” written by Claire C.
Oliver was a sea otter pup. He lived with his mother. He learned how to dive bits and bits into the deep water. “I don’t think I will ever reach the bottom”. He said. Oliver loved watching his mother crack shells. Oliver’s mother lay on her back. She put a rock on her chest and hit the shell against it. The shell split open and she gave the meat to Oliver. “Someday you will learn to crack shells yourself.” She said to Oliver. Oliver’s mother said to Oliver:” You must keep your fur clean. If you don’t, you will sink and never come back up. We need to breathe. If we don’t we will die.” Oliver’s mother said. One day something terrible happened. A ship crashed on a rock and a hole broke in it. An oil tank spilled in into the ocean. The next morning Oliver’s mother got a clam. She split it open and gave it to Oliver. Oliver took a bite. Then he stopped. “This clam doesen’t taste good.” He said. “I know.” Said his mother. “but if you don’t eat, you will be hungry and die.” She said. So Oliver ate it anyway. The next day a lot of sea otters sank to the bottom. Oliver knew they were dead. They didn’t come up for airs. But Oliver and his mother managed to stay afloat. Suddenly a motor boat came, a person put a net on Oliver and his mother. And they were being taken to the animal rescue center. Oliver didn’t like being stuck with a needle. When he woke up, he was happy because his fur was clean. He saw the people cleaning his mother. “They will clean you!” said Oliver. But his mother didn’t reply. She is not breathing! Said one of them. They put a oxygen over her face and pushed on her chest. But the people could not get her to breathe. Oliver’s eyes filled with ears because he could never see his mother again. When the people let Oliver out, he began to dive for food. It was dark at the bottom of the ocean. Finally he touched the sandy ocean floor. He touched and moved until he felt a shell. Air. He needed air! But he didn’t give up until he found a rock.! When he found one, he went up, up, up and up. Finally he got to the surface. He gasped for air. When he lay on his back, put the rock on his chest and began to hit the shell against the rock then he opened it and ate it, then happily dived for more.
